Boxed Lunch Option
PPT has partnered once again with everyone’s favorite Salisbury lunch spot- Sidewalk Deli. Pre –ordered box lunches will be available this summer for campers who want them. Cost is $5 a day. Boxed lunch will include a fresh made sandwich, side, dessert, and drink and will be delivered to the theater. Menus will be sent with registration forms. Campers do not have to purchase lunch for every day, they can pick and choose daily if they like. Lunch orders must be received before the first day of class to be guaranteed. Campers are welcome to bring their own lunch if they do not want the boxed lunch option.

June 12-16

Acting Up 1 (K-2 Camp)

9am-12pm

Instructor:  Anne Cote Hoffman
Back by popular demand!  Little ones want to have fun and do theatre too! Theatre is a great way for young students to learn and express themselves. Campers will play games, do puzzles, and learn basic acting and design skills. This camp will not have an end of the week program since the focus is not performance but fun and process.


Disney Mania (Elementary)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson

All Disney, all week! Campers will be treated to a week filled with favorites songs, scenes and dances from Disney movies. We'll transform into princesses, villains, heroes, and talking animals of all kinds to treat family and friends to a mini-performance on the final day of camp. We'll also create Disney themed art projects that may be utilized in our performance. Creative drama games and activities will round out this week of fun and skill-building.


June 19-23

MOANA Musical Camp (Elementary)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Gwen Matthews

This summer Gwen has decided to take on one of the most popular movies of 2016….Disney’s MOANA!  Come this summer and learn the songs from the film, some new Polynesian dance steps, and be charmed by the amazing story of Moana. Join PPT Youth Director Gwen Matthews for a week you won’t soon forget.



"Ladies First!" A Performance Workshop Celebrating Women Artists (Middle & High School)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson

This workshop will celebrate work by female Broadway composers and playwrights. Suitable for beginner-experienced students, each participant will have the opportunity to explore a monologue, scene, song, or dance that ties in with our theme. We'll also focus on skill-building activities to develop stage presence, character development, and confidence. The week will culminate in a cabaret style performance for family and friends on the last day of camp. Material may include songs/scenes from shows: Little Women, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek, The Secret Garden, and more.


June 26-30

Acting Up 2 (K-2 Camp)

9am-12pm

For those that have taken Acting Up 1 and would like to continue to develop their skills.  *Acting Up 1 is required for all campers.*


Let’s Write A Show (Elementary)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson

Campers will have a blast creating their own collaborative original show, complete with their favorite popular songs. Led by the instructor, campers will use songs and prompts to brainstorm ideas for a short play. Every camper will have an equal part as we prepare a mini-performance for family and friends on the last day of camp. The week will include fun lessons on story-building, creative drama, and role playing, as well as theatre themed art projects that may be incorporated in their original show.


July 10-14 

Christmas In July (Elementary)
9am-2pm
Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson

Christmas comes early this year! Campers will get in the holiday spirit with songs, dances and hilarious scenes from musicals like Elf, A Christmas Story, White Christmas and more! Campers will create daily art projects that may be utilized in our performance. Mini-performance for family and friends on the last day of camp. Creative drama games and activities will round out this week of fun and skill-building.


Let’s Create A New Musical (Middle & High School)
9am-2pm

Instructor:  Laurie Klaus

The setting is a summer camp set in the NC mountains, whose lake, when hit just right by the light of the full moon, causes a time portal to open.  This is an original youth musical written by PPT Youth Musical Director- Laurie Klaus and students in this camp will have the opportunity to see how a new youth musical is developed and work shopped.  Come experience the process of making a new show come to life for the very first time.


July 17-21

Lin Manuel Miranda Intensive (Middle & High School)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Gwen Matthews

Hamilton…In The Heights…Moana….these are just some of the amazing works by Lin Manuel Miranda.   Come enjoy a week of learning about the work of one of Broadway’s most innovative new artists while performing some of the most popular music in theatre.


July 24-28

Dinosaurs Take The Stage (K-2 Camp)

9am-12pm

Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson
Everybody loves a singing, dancing dinosaur! Boys and girls will spend the week creating their very own dinosaur themed mini-performance, complete with songs and dances, inspired by favorite characters from "Dinosaur Train", "The Good Dinosaur" and more. Each day will include a pre-historic themed art project to take home and a dino-licious snack. Mini-performance for family and friends on the last day of camp.

July 31-Aug 4

Vocal Technique for Musical Theatre Workshop (Middle & High School)
9am-12pm

Instructor:  Caroline Stephenson

Caroline Stephenson is Instructor of Voice for Musical Theatre at Catawba College. In this workshop, she'll introduce students to the wide variety of vocal styles heard in contemporary musical theatre and help students learn techniques for healthy singing. Students will also work on developing audition material and on strategies for successful musical auditions. The week will culminate in a mini-performance for family and friends on the last day of camp featuring the students singing solos and group numbers from songs learned throughout the week. Beginner-experienced students welcome.


What’s My Motivation?  Finding & Preparing A Character  (Elementary)

9am-2pm

Instructor:  Austin Young

In this camp, students will spend time working with the basic tools required to turn lines of dialogue into a living, breathing character. We will focus on mental preparation, script interpretation, and what it means to make strong choices with a role. This will result in the presentation of short, character-driven monologues given to parents at the end of the week. Students should be ready to be a little silly and step outside their day-to-day comfort zones. We'll have tons of fun.


August 7-11

Disney Mania Jr. (K-2 Camp)

Adapted for our youngest campers, this week will feature songs, dances and creative drama activities from favorite Disney movies. Each day will utilize a different set of characters and we'll finish the week with a mini-performance for family and friends. Every day will include a themed art project to take home and a fun snack. Mini-performance for family and friends on the last day of camp. 


August 7-11 & 14-18

SEUSSICAL Performer Camp (3rd-12th Grades)
9am-2pm
Instructor:  Gwen Matthews

The most popular camp every summer!  Spend ten rehearsal-filled days learning the wonderful musical script of SEUSSICAL!   Plenty of singing, dancing, and exciting characters!  Join us for a summer production! This is a two-week intensive camp that will put together the production complete with costumes, props and a set. Campers will learn choreography, music, and scripts to the entire show.  *Campers must attend both weeks.


August 14-18

Backstage Crew Camp (6th-12th Grades)

9am-2pm

The real work in theatre happens behind the scenes.  Come learn what it takes to bring a live production to the stage.  Campers will get an overview of costume and makeup design, stage management, lights and sound and much much more.  Students will learn the importance of teamwork while meeting with the director and other designers to create a cohesive whole production.  At the end of the week you will have the chance to see your creation on stage.


About Our Talented Instructors

Gwen Matthews is excited to be joining us for her fifth season of Summer Theatre Camps!  Gwen’s camps are always among our most popular.  Last season most of her camps were sold out.  In addition to our summer camps, Gwen teachers PPT’s youth musical audition camps.  She has also directed PPT’s Productions of Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS, Honk Jr., The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jr., The Little Mermaid and High School Musical.  This summer she will bring Disney’s TARZAN to the Norvell stage.

Caroline Stephenson holds the M.M. and B.M. in Music Performance. She has taught camps and classes in creative drama, dance, and music for Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Matthews Playhouse, The Uwharrie Players and others, and directed, music directed and performed in many productions throughout NC and SC. She is currently on staff at Rowan Cabarrus and Central Piedmont Community Colleges in the Department of Music. 

Anne Cote Hoffman has a BA in Communication Arts from Catawba College where she performed and volunteered with The Blue Masque and a MA in School Counseling from UNC-Charlotte. Over the years, Anne has performed in many productions with Piedmont Players, St. Thomas Players and Lee Street Theater. As one of our original Drama Camp teachers, she helped build and expand the program to what it is today. She is thrilled to have been the first drama teacher of many of the young actors you see on The Norvell and Meroney stages. "After teaching drama for several years, I am still amazed with the children's imagination and what great natural teacher drama is for social skills."

Laurie Klaus has served as Music Director for many Norvell Theatre productions, including Elf, Jr., Tarzan, Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House: Knight at Dawn, and The Little Mermaid. She has also enjoyed being pianist for many Norvell summer musical camps. A resident of Salisbury, she has been involved as Music Director, Vocal Director, and Keyboardist for theatrical productions throughout the region. She has also worked with Flat Rock Playhouse and Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. She holds a B.S. in Christian Education/Music and has continued her education at Catawba College and through mentors based in New York City.
