Piedmont Players Theatre is proud to celebrate longtime Box Office Manager Cam Hall, who was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Metrolina Theatre Association Awards.
Presenting the award, Managing Director Kevin Dietzel shared the following tribute recognizing Cam's remarkable career, dedication, and lasting impact on Piedmont Players Theatre:
There are individuals who work behind the scenes to ensure the success of an organization, and then there are those rare people whose dedication, knowledge, and unwavering commitment become part of the very foundation of that organization. Cam Hall is one of those people.
Cam has served as the Box Office Manager at Piedmont Players Theatre for more than 15 years, though her relationship with the theater extends back much further. Throughout her decades of involvement, she has become far more than an employee. She is the institutional memory, the welcoming face, and the steady heartbeat of Piedmont Players Theatre.
Cam’s devotion to Piedmont Players has never been limited to a single job or title. Over the years, she has served the organization in countless capacities, always willing to step in wherever she was needed. Her commitment has included serving on the Piedmont Players Theatre Board of Directors, where she helped provide leadership and oversight for the organization she cares so deeply about. Whether serving in a formal leadership role, working in the box office, supporting a production, advocating for the theater in the community, or simply helping solve whatever problem needed solving that day, Cam has consistently put the needs of PPT first.
In her current role as Box Office Manager, Cam is the person who makes sure the front door of Piedmont Players is always open in every sense of the word. She knows everyone's name. She knows everyone's preferred seat. She remembers the families who have been coming to shows for generations, the patrons who need a little extra assistance, and the audience members who have made the theater part of their lives. For Cam, selling a ticket has never simply been a transaction. It is an opportunity to welcome someone into the Piedmont Players family.
Cam also serves as the liaison for the Norvell Theater, a responsibility she takes extremely seriously. She understands the unique importance of the Norvell and its role in introducing children, families, and young performers to the world of theatre. She works tirelessly to ensure that the people involved with Norvell productions have what they need and that the theater receives the attention and care it deserves. Her dedication to both the Meroney and Norvell theaters reflects her belief that every part of Piedmont Players matters.
Cam’s history with theatre extends well beyond Piedmont Players. She has a storied professional career that includes touring as a professional stage manager for productions such as Hair. That experience has given her a remarkable depth of knowledge about theatre and the people who make it happen. She has seen the industry from nearly every angle, and she brings that experience, perspective, and practical knowledge to everything she does for PPT.
And Cam has never been content to experience theatre solely from backstage. She has also taken the stage herself, including appearing in Piedmont Players productions such as Leap of Faith. In perhaps one of the most memorable examples of her willingness to give everything she has to the organization, Cam even brought her beloved pup, Rocket, into the spotlight as Toto in The Wizard of Oz. It is difficult to find a better illustration of Cam's spirit: if there is a way to be involved, she will find it—and if there is a way to make it more fun, she will do that too.
What truly sets Cam apart, however, is her extraordinary advocacy for Piedmont Players Theatre. She believes in this organization wholeheartedly. She talks about it, promotes it, defends it, supports it, and encourages others to become part of it. Her advocacy is not something she does because it is part of her job. It comes from a genuine belief that theatre matters and that Piedmont Players matters to this community.
Perhaps nothing speaks more clearly to Cam’s character than her resilience. Even while enduring two separate bouts of chemotherapy, she never lost her commitment to the theater she loves. She continued to come in day after day, doing everything she could to make sure the office was running properly and that the needs of the organization were being met. She never allowed her own circumstances to diminish her sense of responsibility to PPT. Her perseverance and dedication during those extraordinarily difficult periods are a testament to the depth of her commitment.
A Lifetime Achievement Award should recognize more than years of service. It should recognize a lifetime of impact. Cam Hall has given Piedmont Players Theatre her time, her talents, her professional expertise, her leadership, her creativity, her humor, and, above all, her heart.
Her legacy can be found in the countless patrons she has welcomed, the volunteers and staff she has supported, the productions she has helped bring to life, the young people she has encouraged, the board she helped lead, and the generations of theatergoers who know that when they walk through the doors of Piedmont Players, Cam will be there.
She is the person who knows where everyone sits, who knows everyone's name, who knows how things are supposed to work, and who will do whatever it takes to make sure they do. She is an advocate, a leader, a stage manager, an actor, a volunteer, a colleague, a mentor, and a friend.
Most importantly, Cam Hall is the heartbeat of Piedmont Players Theatre.
For her decades of extraordinary service, her leadership and advocacy, her remarkable resilience, her professional contributions to the theatrical community, and the immeasurable impact she has had on Piedmont Players Theatre, I can think of no one more deserving of a Lifetime Achievement Award than Cam Hall.
