Tameka Brown Shelby

Tameka Brown is a dynamic and passionate artist, dedicated professional, and active community member. Hailing from Kannapolis, North Carolina, she has a rich history with the Piedmont Players, where she has graced the stage in notable roles such as Aunt Em in The Wiz, Charlaine in Ain’t Misbehavin’, Celie in The Color Purple, The Musical, and as part of the ensemble in Dreamgirls. Tameka is now excited to return to the stage as Shelby in Steel Magnolias, adding another chapter to her impressive theatrical career.

A proud graduate of Livingstone College, Tameka is also an active member of the Salisbury Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Her community involvement extends beyond the stage as she is a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Salisbury. Tameka is a devoted wife to Edward and mother to Jaylen, Tamia, and Latasha, cherishing the time spent with her family.

By day, Tameka serves as a compassionate school social worker with the Rowan Salisbury School System, where she positively impacts the lives of students. By night, she brings her love for
performance to life on the stage, creating unforgettable characters. Her ability to balance her professional and artistic pursuits is an inspiration to all, reflecting her unwavering dedication to her community, family, and the arts.

She would like to dedicate this show in memory of her aunts, Sheila Brown and Sharon Brooks.
